GunZ: The Duel – First Look at the Graphical Refresh

A Long-Awaited Visual Update Arrives

As promised, PD Max has returned with a fresh developer update—this time revealing early visuals and key decisions behind the graphical refresh in GunZ: The Duel Remaster.

“As I promised earlier, I came back with the details about graphical refresh! You can check this in the images below.”

This marks the first time the GunZ Team has shared direct visual previews of the character models and updated UI. And with it comes reassurance that gameplay integrity remains the top priority.

Graphics Upgrade Without Sacrificing Gameplay

The team considered engine upgrades to improve graphic quality—but ultimately decided to stay with the current engine to preserve GunZ’s signature gameplay.

“After careful deliberation, we decided to prioritize preserving your gameplay experience above all else.”

Instead of migrating to a new engine, the team is enhancing visual quality within the existing framework. This approach allows them to retain the fast-paced movement, hit registration, and combat feel that long-time fans expect.

“We are increasing the quality without sacrificing the current engine, and are working on refreshing the unique style of GunZ characters.”

Hitboxes Will Remain Intact

One of the community’s biggest concerns—hitbox consistency—was addressed directly:

“Even though the character structure has been slightly changed, we are taking extra care to ensure that there are no changes to the hitbox compared to the previous GunZ.”

This ensures that the new visuals are purely aesthetic and won’t impact competitive gameplay, which has always been precision-based.

Outfit Enhancements and Style Consistency

The refresh includes updated outfits and visuals, all built using the current character model as a reference.

“We are also working on enhancing the outfits, using the current character model as the reference.”

Screenshots provided by the development team offer a glimpse at the refreshed environments, improved textures, and redesigned UI elements.

The crosshair will not be displayed when using melee weapons, but it has been included here for the purpose of presenting the UI design.

Preserving the Feel of Classic GunZ

PD Max emphasized the development team’s careful approach to every change—ensuring nothing is lost in translation.

“We are carefully considering the impact on the gameplay you value, making sure that none of that is lost in the process of improving the game’s quality.”

The goal is a remaster that looks modern but still feels like GunZ.

More Updates Coming Soon

“I’ll sign off here for now, but I’ll return with more updates soon. I won’t keep you waiting too long!”

With the first look now released, more previews and refinements are expected in upcoming PD Notes.
